Okay, so this is my first group of birds with feathery feet, and I am just very confused... I have two silver laced cochins and five buff brahma bantums... These guys are the only ones in the whole flock that have slightly raised scales. I cleaned and treated the coops and pen with ivitemicin and then started applying castor oil to thier feet and legs. Its been about three months and there is no change to their feet. Not a single chicken without feathered feet has shown any signs of mites... Should I continue to treat them or is this just what their legs look like? I'll post a picture soon, some of the girls are molting and they don't like me bugging anyone out there right now.

I my experiences with s/l mites, you can't see them. But the bulge out the leg scales. I have effectively rid them before by packing vasoline on the legs with a single application. As well as sevin dusting the housing bed and replacing materials in nesting boxes as well.

Same thing going on with our Black Copper Maran. On just one foot and. Lower leg. Maybe I will try the petroleum jelly and see if it helps. She also is losing some feathers on the foot. Also the only one out of 4 hens that has the problem.
