This is our 1 year old Mille fleur d’uccle. I’ve never dealt with scaly leg mites and this is my first experience with feather legged chickens. Is this scaly leg mites? Just got him out of soaking with soapy water and applied Vaseline just in case, as our son is showing him for 4H in about 3 weeks.

If there are scaly leg mites it looks mild. Sometimes feather footed breeds can have kind of gnarly looking feet because of the feathers. It also looks like new feathers are coming in based on the length of the shafts, so may be some irritation. I would slather the legs & feet with vegetable oil (I use castor oil) and then put vaseline over that, the idea is to smother the mites. The oil may cause them to have dirt stick to them, and look dirty, which is not a worry, but for showing. I usually do every other day for the first week, and then a couple of times a week there after until they look normal. So you'll have to clean him up for the show.
