Scaly leg mites?

Does this look like the start of scaly leg mites to anyone? I am super paranoid about them so I just want to make sure if it is so I can start treating right away.

I don't see slm, but I'm no expert. What I do see is that your perches need to be rolled over 90° so the larger flat side faces up. I think that would make more comfortable perches for your birds, distribute their weight more evenly and make them less prone to bumblefoot.

Thanks, I didn’t think so but just wanted to check. And that isn’t there perch they sleep on. That is just an outdoor structure I made for them using scrap wood and branches. The perch they sleep on is a 2+ inch (varies throughout) piece of smooth driftwood.

That is why I am so paranoid. I love my fluffy footed buddies but treatment seems like it would be so much more annoying, for me and the birds, and harder to do properly. Good to hear you don’t think so as well!

Oh agreed! I am always looking at their feet. I should honestly be less paranoid bc my run is nice and sandy but

Treatment is not difficult. Just go in at night when they are roosted with a big jar of Vaseline or similar and coat their legs with it, you don't even have to take them off the roost. I use a little headlamp with a red light, they don't see very well in red light so they hardly stir at all. Give them a good coating and do it again ... five days later, I think. Shoot, I don't remember.

Yeah just with feathered legs it seems like it would be harder to cover everything. Also in my mind I feel like it would be the equivalent of wearing Vaseline coated socks

It's only for a couple of nights and beats the heck out of having little critters chewing on your legs and sucking your blood, wouldn't you think?
