So about a month ago me and my dad drove to our local Bomgaars (Farming Store; it used to be an Orscheln's) and picked ourselves up 6 Easter Egger chicks and 3 Barred Rock chicks.
It's been a few weeks now and the chicks are doing great, but we noticed something about the supposed "Easter Eggers".
Our chicks looked nothing like the Easter Egger chicks we had seen online, and we were starting to wonder if there even was a breed just called "Easter Egger".
We eventually looked it up and came to a horrifying and saddening conclusion.
The "Easter Eggers" they had sold us were in fact not Easter Eggers, but MALE GOLDEN COMETS. We had bought ourselves some Golden Comets the year before and were very pleased to see they all turned out to be girls and very prolific layers, but we did not need any more roosters.
Looking back on it, the picture they had up for the "Easter Egger" chicks wasn't even an adult Easter Egger, but some other random bread that I don't know the name of.
SO, instead of getting our beautiful Easter Egging hens, it looks like we've got 6 Golden Comet roosters, which does us NO GOOD AT ALL.
The moral of the story?
ONLY BUY CHICKS FROM TRUSTED HATCHERIES!
Oh and...maybe do some research before you buy them...
I am very salty about this whole thing - D13
