Scared chicks, will they always be this way?

I hatched 10 chicks about a week ago. I work a lot of hours and know that this has contributed to their independence from me. I am not trying to me momma hen, but would appreciate if they weren't so flighty. when I peek into the brooder. As adults, or adolescence, will they lighten up and be more friendly?

Very typical. It is their instincts kicking in, to fear all things and any sound or movement. Yes, they will get it over it. When they are older, they will be so very different. At 10 weeks, they'll be under foot every time you go to feed them. You'll see.

Mine were like that too. By 2 weeks, they were excited to see me! What did the most good the fastest: chick food made into a mush with warm water, served in my hand. I was suddenly the greatest thing on earth! At 4 weeks, they still like that better than anything but a nice bug to play tag with.
