Hi all,
I'm so very sad to say I found my one and a half year old White Rock, Pearl, dead in the hen house this morning. It looks like she died in her sleep and fell off the roost. I can't find anything wrong with her....nothing. No mites, clean vent, clean beak...We thought she was one of our healthiest birds. She was out yesterday evening running around, then I tucked them in at 10 after finding a fox on the coop roof. They all seemed to be happy and oblivious....cooing and such.
I am really sad...my chickens are my pets and I keep a blog about my life with them: www.thebackyardfarmproject.com. I'm worried there might be some disease I am missing and I will find the rest of my happy little flock dead too? Or, is it possible she just had a heart attack? Did the fox come back and scare her to death? (No possible way for critters to get into the coop....my husband built Fort Knox). But the foxes and their new kits are terrorizing the neighborhood and people are losing their chickens.
Thanks for your thoughts....devastating losing one...I sure don't want to lose the other four. Sad day in our lil' patch of heaven.
