scarlet runner beans?

How do you grow runner beans? Any tips? I heard you are supposed 2 soak them in water before planting them... is this true?

I love runner beans, they are my favourite vegetable!

I grow them every year, and all I do is dig a trench, throw lots of well rotted compost in it and chuck in the beans. I put poles in the ground for them to wrap themselves around, and then leave them to it.

This autumn or next spring (depending on your climate) pre-dig your trenches, then over the weeks fill with old newspaper and compost from your kitchen, chickens etc. By spring this will all be rotted down and your beans will grow like crazy.
