Scat Near Chicken Coop

Ok, bad news.......it was a bear that attacked out baby chicks. The scat.....not sure, it still may be coon, but it was a bear who ate the chicks. We have it on film from the camera my DH hung that was around the coop. The bear is about 1-2 years old and weighs about 150 pounds. My husband has since made big adjustments to the coop and we are keeping an eye out.

Our area has been flooded with bear sightings recently and the game warden is on the lookout.

We woke up the other morning and our trash cans (plastic) were torn and there were bear paw prints all over them and the trash was drug about 200 feet.

Thanks to all who replied to my post.

Looks like raccoon scat, and if it has seeds in it, that's what it is.
Fox scat can be similar but has a greasy scent and a spiral appearance.

About your bear, and I'm very sorry to hear about it- keep all meat/fat bone scraps and anything containing grain especially corn in your freezer until you can compost it or discard it for pickup. He'll move to someone else's property if you deny him easy pickings. Oh and wash all your bins.

Well I am sorry to see that it was a bear like I thought. Bear that age probally just left mom last fall and is not finding too much to eat. Getting bad habits fast. Sure hope ya get the help from the game warden that your hoping for, here we have so many bears that it is pretty much your problem. Concerns me that at his age he is not showing fear of humans so be carefull when you go outside especially if ya have kids. Good luck
