Scattering Feed vs. Feeder

Hi Everyone. I was wondering which way was better to feed chickens?
Scattering feed around the run or putting it in a feeder?
It seems to me my chickens like to scratch around for food more than eating out of a feeder,
So which way do you think is best?...... thanks

The best way is what works best for you. If you scatter, they will forage more and get more grit to help digest. You just need to make sure they get enough food. If you have a feeder out for most laying hens, they will eat the correct amount of food.

Our chickens have a feeder and free rage..when i catch worms they don't eat them but they find lots of bugs when they are out...the y however attack the feeder when i add more feed like they haven't eaten !

It just seems like when I scatter the feed it all gets eaten but,
the feed in the feeder turns into dust from all the pecking.
