So I did something completely stupid. I my eggs are due on the 18th, a Tuesday. This is a good day in case my hatch is late like it was last year: we'll still have time to see the chicks hatch before the weekend. However, I stupidly did not realize that this puts lockdown on Saturday May 15th.
My options are as follows:
Put them into lockdown as late in the day as possible on Friday.
Put them into lockdown on Monday (day 20). Not necessarily the horrible option this could possibly be, since I had some temp issues the first several days, and I'm thinking these eggs may not be on time. They also look to be a little behind when I candle.
These options have the great benefit of putting the eggs into lockdown with the students present. I could even get some of the them to help do it. (Always a plus).
The other option is I could come up here on Saturday and do it myself. If there is a way to avoid this and still have hope of reasonable success with the hatch, I'd like to go that route mostly so the students can be involved. Also so I don't have to potenially sit up here at work for hours if something goes wrong.
Advice on what is the best course? Will putting them into lockdown early hurt the hatch?
Thanks!
