Scours and a cold? Orphaned calf at 6 or 7 weeks

ya thats all im gonna do now is crack 2 eggs in the milk, pro bios, and electrolyes and free choice water...shes not interested in the grain or hay so i may try calf manna.
also, it does smell terrible!! worse than any poo ive smelled out of a cow before. and the flies are all over it!! i was doing good as far as flies go until this. now theyre all in her stall....

if her poo smells like some thing rotten she has a bad intestine infection. i would treat her with penicillin. start her off on a large dose to get her started. i give mine 10 cc in each hip as a starter dose then 10 cc a day for 3 or 4 days days. that will also take care of pneumonia if she has it. any good feed store should have penicillin. i would also give her calf electrolytes if she is dehydrated. do you know how to tell if a calf is dehydrated? grab a hand full of skin on the side and see if it takes it a long time to flatten back out or look in the corner of its eyes and see if the look sunken or if it has a big gap in the corner of its eye. to help stiffen the poo i give them corn starch about a table spoon of corn starch in each bottle you should already have that in your kitchen. when i first started raising calves i was told to never ever give a calf eggs. chickens are carriers of salmonella. salmonella kills cows. it sounds like this is your first calf. if the calf was cheap or free she might be worth calling a vet.. some times a vet can help. but i have found out over the years that a vet is not a sure thing. most of the things a vet will do you can do. hope this helps

thanks for the advice!! this is not my first calf, but the first calf ive had any problems with. she was not free. she seems to be doing better. i will take pictures and keep everyone updated.
