I love Scratch n Peck! It’s the only thing we’ve ever used and it’s great. We opt for them because they are corn and soy free, as well as organic. My husband has allergic reactions to eggs laid by chickens that consume grain corn and soy, so this is vital for us.
When I used their crumble, I fed them 16% during periods of the year when they free ranged, and 18% minutes m winter when there were less bugs available and they were confined to their large run. Also used 18% during molting time.
As you know, the crumble makes a terrible mess. They throw it everywhere, and neglect the powdery stuff(vitamins and minerals) at the bottom. We had much higher mouse traffic when we used it. We switched to the pellets as soon as they became available, and there’s no going back. Never a pellet to be found on the ground. Better quality eggs and shells because the vitamins are pressed right in. It’s really great stuff. And the chickens must be able to smell the grubs in it(the protein source) because transitioning them was seamless.
Others have commented on the cost… ordering online is much more expensive. Use their website to look for retailers in your area, because they can attain the larger “wholesale” sized bags. It’s either 35 or 40 lb bags, and I get mine locally for $32 per bag. My chickens also go through this feed slower than the crumble. I think it has something to do with less waste, as well as being more sustained by the nutrient level they're able to receive.
Scratch n Peck? Fantastic. Their pellet feed? 20 out of 10 rating.
