scruffy chicken

i have just got a new cockrel he seems to be pecking at himself alot and has a large bald red area on his chest i have looked for signs of mites but cant see any i was wondering if any1 knows what may be wrong could it be stress as he has come from a home where he had started fighting with other young cockrels, also what does a chicken with mites look like apart from the scaly legs?

Is he eating the feather? Is so he is lacking protien in his diet. It could be stress also.
You will want to flip the feathers up and look for little crawly things. At night is the best. Look by the vent with a flashlight.

check for the mites..
as Katrinag posted..check at night with flashlight..

give him some extra protein (eggs, canned beef cat food, gamebird feed, etc)and poultry vitamins..and a little electrolytes.
