All our geese and ducks molted before the snow was gone and by the time spring arrived , all had new feathers and looking great, but we have a new pair of cayugas, 'elvis and priscilla' we got them in the early spring, just as the other ducks and geese were renewing their feathers. priscilla is not quite as shimmery in the sun as our other cayuga 'cayoo'..but still lovely, and unlike cayoo who lays medium sized khaki coloured eggs, priscilla lays large white eggs....comments ?
elvis was scruffy when we got him and the guy we got them from said 'the drakes were looking a little rough'...not sure why the drakes...ours are no different, anyway, i caught him yesterday and had a look and it APPEARS that he still has his old down with new down grown in on top and he's all thick and ...i know it's not hair but seemingly matted...that's the best way i can describe what he looks/feels like...is this what it appears to be..or what is going on with this drake ? our other drakes are beautiful, but elvis is all lumpy and scruffy looking... I'd appreciate some insight into the the discrepancy in egg colour of the 2 cayuga ducks and with elvis' feather situation.
