Hi all,

Well it finally happened! My sweet Scully finally laid us an egg!

It has a slight pink tinge to it. I was so happy, I petted her and cooed over her for about 20 minutes, and gave her some cracked corn as a treat.

Anyway, here's my question. She has spent most of today in the nest box. It's unusual for her not to be in the run during the day. She doesn't seem sick, and she doesn't seem to mind me reaching in the box to pet her, but she doesn't seem to want to move out of there. Could she be broody? She has only come down a few times to eat and do her business that I've seen this morning.

Thanks!

. I don' raise chickens so I'm not sure about the broody part.

Hi, congratulations to you and Scully! I've never had a pullet go broody after laying her first egg but, it could happen. Some of my hens just like to hang out in the next box for a while after laying their egg. You'll know if she's broody if she doesn't roost tonight. Enjoy your future eggs!

My hen Star has done that after we got our first egg *Which was just 2 days ago!* but they're just staying close in case they feel the need to lay again..... She has been doing that to me and her sisters as well.... But they eventually come back out and explore again! Don't worry, and keep us updated!

Well, mystery solved. Scully was hanging out in the nest box because...

She laid another egg!

She must have laid the first one last night after I went in for the evening. I went out to check on her, opened the nest box, and this little beauty was waiting for me, still warm! The picture doesn't do it justice, it's a beautiful peachy color. Is it weird that I'm so proud of an egg? Lol!
