Hi all, Just wondering, my sebright chicks are feathering in but the feathers don't look right, they are smudged and speckled.... do they change as they get older or is this it? Note the pic of the single chick.... it looks fairly close to the proper colour... what's going on!!!! They are supposed to be from show stock.

Did they come from a hatchery? They look like my hatchery quality Sebrights that are about the same age as yours.

I actually got 2 hens from a breeder and the silver started laying so I put them in the bator and they hatched, the breeder only has her show roosters and no other breed.

I am interested to see how they feather out. Mine are Privett Hatchery stock so I chalked my guys' coloring up to poor quality BUT maybe they will color up well. Many breeds take time to feather out into their pretties, lol. No matter what mine end up looking like, they have fun personalities so far and we are enjoying them.

perfect eveidence for my case, not all breeder stock are going to be superior to a hatchery. you always get a range from good to bad in ANY hatch. and in a hatchery you might come out with a couple super birds and some crappy birds, same as a breeder! the only difference is a breeder may cull almost everyting that isnt the exact breed standard with no dqs, not even a small one, and you buy what is left. a hatchery probably wont cull a hatch they send to you, they just cull in their own breeding stock.

I think your right lilly, have you got any pics of your babies? would love to see them. PS were they the same pattern as mine on hatching?
