I have a hen and a roo, sebrights,: she is laying, also i have a few RIR (they are alittle younger) the sebrights seem to be real aggressive with the RIR, are they a mean breed, also i have a male and female mallard duck full grown, would it be safe to leave them with the chickens, i am needing some advice as we are not the brightest egg in the batch, thanks, mike

My mallards and chickens got along just fine, although the ducks constantly fouled the waterers with dirt. I finally got tired of changing the water multiple times per day and put them out on the pond.

As for Seabrights, I'll never own them again. The hens are OK, but the roos are mean as all get-out. I had one spur me three times and draw blood, despite me picking him up and holding him to show him who is boss. Drop-kicking him into the fence didn't work either. ( I know, but it was a reflex kick after a spurring.)

I tried to eat the little bugger, but he was tough as nails, even after pressure cooking him for 2 hours. The meat was so dark and tough that the dog wouldn't even eat it!

Thanks for the reply, i didn't plan on keeping the ducks long, my daughter is finishing up her duck pond and was just keeping them a couple weeks, the rooster is alittle protective and i didn't know if it would harm the ducks,, i never had any issues with him

Most of the time the roosters are cocky and can be aggressive though mine isn't. Try holding them by their legs. As soon as he is done flapping his wings and relaxes, set him upright. You just have to be strict with them. If he can survive a swift punt, then don't be afraid to pinch his neck and pin him down. Not roughly, just enough to show that you mean business.
