I am looking into buying a breeding pair of sebustol geese breeding pair but the lady says she has had them since 2021 and this is her first breeding season with them. She hasn't gotten a single fertile egg and doesn't know what age they are. Is it worth the purchase and drive? Why would their eggs not be fertile

Age-not correctly sexed-overgrown or dirty vent feathers-disease-poor diet all contribute to fertility. How long have they been laying? It's not uncommon for first eggs to be infertile. Is the asking price great?

Whether or not to buy depends on you. Are you a risk taker? Can you afford to invest in something questionable? Are you thrilled about getting the breed.

The fact that the goose lays eggs is a good sign and the problem is likely the gander. Could you find a replacement gander if needed?

Depending on the price and how far I'd have to drive, and the other items I mentioned...

If it were me, I'd buy goslings. By doing so, you're not buying someone else's problems. And since these birds have had multiple owners, my guess is there's a reason.

That's what I am worried about. The price is good for the breed in my area, and normally I don't mind taking risks but this is a little more expensive than my normal endeavors lol I would hate to drop a bunch of money for them to turn up sick

Typically I don't mind taking risks but that's a little more expensive than my usual purchases bird wise. I do want the breed but I don't Want to buy potentially sick birds either.. Usually around my area people ask that for 1 bird

This alone should tell you not to buy. I do not buy if it is a worry.

I've been raising birds for 60 years and one of the most important things I've learned is to NEVER buy adult birds from people I do not know. There's just too many cheats...

I buy hatching eggs from the nearest reliable source or chicks or immature.

I agree, I have decided to pass on them! There are too many factors that i just can't really get passed. Thank you for the input, I appreciate all of the voices of reason! ❤️
