We had 1 of our 4 year old ckickens get extremely swolen in her abdomen to the point were she is very bow legged, visually very fat, she stumbles around and sleeps alot. We brought her in a couple weeks ago to sit in a warm bath for a while and injected a little oil up her backside which she pooped out 10 minutes later, neither changed her condition, she still eats and poops and now 1 of our other hens is doing the same thing. Afraid we will lose our whole flock if we don"t figure out the cause or what this is. Please help!

One of my hens is swollen in the abdomen too......and its firm/hard when I touch it. her crop is really puffy too.........I'm looking for help myself. she isn't eating normally and has small amounts of sorta runny dark green dropping which are also watery. I've been reading and I'm leaning either toward sour crop, or crop blockage, or being egg bound. Maybe you could search those things and get some answers.
Saw your post while I'm still trying to find help myself. Good Luck

What we think we have is ascites(spelling may not be right) a secondary problem to a heart/oxygen problem. You might also check into worms, seems like i read into something about the watery green droppings and having worms. Our chickens abdomens are pretty soft but extremely swollen and nothing abnormal with their crop.

we read about trying to drain their abdomens yesterday and if you get fluid out it's ascitis if nothing, it may be laying internally or another problem, We drained our 2 hens tonight and got 350cc from one and 375cc from the other. seem to be feeling alot better and still draining from the injection site which is good.
