My first hatch last month didn't go too well. I had way too high humidity and only got 5. This time 13 eggs made it to lockdown and this is what I have so far. There's one that's still in the incubator that's pipped.

What kind of incubator do you use? I haven't worried about my humidity much because I have a tray under the wire and the manufacturer's directions pretty much spell out which areas of the tray to fill before lockdown and right before hatch.

Those incubator manuals tell you how much to fill regardless of what it causes you to have for humidty and can often lead to bad hatches. Someone who lives in a dryer less humid area that goes by those "instructions" is going to have lower humidity than someone who lives in a more humid area that goes by the "instructions". The manufacturers do not take into account your ambient humidity and how that effects your percentage, the seasons, which will alter your ambient humidity nor does it take into consideration the differences in egg quality nor user habits. Often those instructions cause a too high percentage and ultimately end with chicks drowning. The only way to know if your humidity is working for you is to check your air cells for growth. Having a good hygrometer will allow you to get an idea what range humidity works best for you and your incubator.
