Second Opinions - Is it time to give up on this egg?

Hi all,

Were hatching eggs for the 3rd time down in Melbourne, Aus. We set 14 in our Brinsea, eliminated 2 during candling - one infertile and one quitter. The first chick hatched at noon on day 20. 5 hours later we finally had more, then more overnight. They all hatched over the next 24 hours except 2. One of the 2 finally pipped several hours after the last hatch, yesterday afternoon (day 21) and is alive and well.

This poor egg is on day 22 with no pip. No movement, no sounds, nothing. So, I tried the floating test. Please see attached photo, is it viable, or am I just hoping too much? My only worry about continuing on is having my first eggsplosion in my incubator...

Thanks for the assist!

I think the only way to tell with the floating test is do they move or not. Not by how much they float or sink.
Can you candle it? That would give one a better idea, and if you're not sure you could take a pic and post it.
Thanks for the reply.

Google searches gave me the info, which of course could be wrong. I watched for movement, none. The articles said if it sinks, dud, - floats only the airsac up, dud - floats more to the side, maybe. Who knows how true it is though, hence looking for advice.

I'll go try to candle it in my walk-in-robe. 😂

Candling a better idea than the float test. If I read right, it's day 21 ... I'd give it at least 2 - 3 more days.
Thank you both. I don't know why I didn't think to just candle it. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Very large air sac in there, definitely no fully developed chick. There's dark areas, looks like it quit at some stage. Must've snuck past us during ongoing incubation candling... I decided to stop at day ten and not candle again before lockdown, so maybe that was how. Maybe it quit right after then.

I can finally clean up my incubator. Thanks again!
