Good evening...got the official word that my new batch of babies are on the way. I ordered 2 Blue Easter Eggers, 1 Snowy Easter Egger, 2 Super Blue Egg layer and 4 "exclusive blues and greens" assortment. 4 of them are going to someone else so I will only have 5 to take care of. Got my new brooder all set up and ready to go. Plan to keep them inside for a few weeks and then move the brooder out to the run. I put windows in the front so the hens I already have can see them and I can introduce them slowly. I made a door that I can raise that will allow the littles to run to safety once they are able to be out on their own. I'm hoping this goes smoothly. Will update with pics when my babies get here.

Congratulations!
I highly recommend that you put them out way sooner than weeks.
I'd put them out by this weekend.
I was thinking about that. It's pretty warm but I don't have electricity to the coop/run unless I run an extension cord so I can't give them heat if they need it. It doesn't get very cold down here at night so I guess they would be ok.

If they were mine I'd put them out on day two with no heat.
And only on day two so I can make sure they were all eating and pooping well first.

I'm in Texas too, Fort Worth. You are hotter than we are down there and I have 3 week old chicks that have brooded outside from day 1. By day 3, they didn't go near the heating pad. We had a couple nights where it went down to the 60's-70's and it was there if they needed it. I don't have any heat on at all for them. I would keep them outside with no heat other than than the natural heatwave we have out there.

Mine are out in the run in their brooder. They used the heat last night but tonight they were all snuggled together inside this little wood hamster house I had for my hedgehog that he didn't like. They love it. I will have to post a picture tomorrow. Its perfect for the little ones to hide in. Its been rainy and "cool" here the last few days.
