One of the most crucial decisions for beginners is selecting the right breeds. In today’s globalized world, we have access to virtually every kind of chicken (it wasn’t that way 30 years ago) yet they are all so different in so many ways. Which breeds are the best for a beginner?

It depends on:
What you want chickens for
Your climate
If they will free range or be in a run
How many you want
The amount of space you have
The housing situation
Your time commitment
Predators in your area
Rural or city living
The list goes on...

All of my chooks have been really great! Sweet, outgoing, hardy

I have x2 barred rock
x2 Buff Orp
x1 California white
x1 Faverolles
x1 Dominique

My very first chickens were WFB Spanish bantams and Sumatra standards.

Naked Neck standards, Phoenix standards and Cornish bantams are what I would recommend though
