Self-sustainability

not much. It really doesn't take much to survive. Water and that is about it. A gun and some ammo would be helpful in the food dept along with some chickens for their eggs.

silver ware is helpful, but not neccesary.

I guess family, water, clothes, and our house.

We live in the country so access to stores is not that big of a deal. Sure I would miss my Coca Cola and my NOS but oh well.

Back in Jan 2007 we went 17 days without electricity and it took about 10 days before we could even go anywhere due to an ice storm. We made out okay. We actually did better than most around us. We burn wood, so I cooked on the wood stove (we have a big cast iron one in our living room) Did everything by candlelight/kerosene lamp at night. We have a hand drawn well in our front yard and a well bucket. Supplied water to several neighbors and fed them too.

We already hunt, I have enough food to probably last 6 months already, and after the garden is harvested this summer I will have enough for more than a year. I already have laundry detergent stockpiled so can't really think of anything else we would need. Our freezer has 10 whole chickens, 400 lbs of beef and some other mix matched meats in it. We have meat rabbits and over 200 chickens running around. Our neighbor has a dairy farm... so we would have milk and butter there.

I might need to stock up on spices and salt, but we could manage and just live off the land. Sugar would be helpful but we could make due. Yeast would be a must.

I have WHAT in my yard? :

I love watching those shows too! Learn something new every day. But basically, I have told DH that I hope he waits for things to be real bad, but he and the kids might as well eat me before the zombies get me. I'm pretty useless...

They know so many things about forest plants you can eat to help your survival... they're good shows, teach me a lot too
