I was curious how easy it is for other BYCers to sell healthy heritage poults. In my area which is rather urban I am having an unexpectedly hard time generating any interest in poults. Granted I will not ship poults but that is true with most hobby breeders. How has this year been for others?

Have you tried Craigslist? I sell a lot on there. Usually hunt clubs pick up on large numbers of young turkeys if you care to look into it and grow them out before hunting season you could probably do pre orders for grown birds if you have the space.

I have been looking for some locally (North West Alabama) and most everybody I talk to is sold out. I think that there is a good market for them here. They sell for around $10.00 - $10.50 each here.

I am advertising MW, Auburn and bronze based mix at that price with almost zero response on craigslist. Scary part is I have about 50 more eggs developing well in my bators. Well protein malnutrition will not be a problem for my family and thanksgiving will definitely be at my house.

I found 2 MW poults through BYC, but then I fell in love with them and needed more so that we could have a turkey for thanksgiving. I ended up buying hatching eggs and having them shipped to someone near me to be hatched because I couldn't find anymore poults that were within a few hours of me...hoping the eggs do ok. Maybe any other eggs you should try to sell as eggs since those are more easily shipped?

I have had better luck selling eggs but with 10 hens thats a lot of eggs to sell. Did not want to waste them when they became too old to ship so in the bator they went. It was that or feed them to the dogs and chickens.

I think you need to post signs at the feed stores with pics of the birds emphasize they are Heritage Turkeys not like what most everyone thinks when you hear "turkey" Need to find restaurants that are into that kind of poultry you might be able to grow them and have the restaurant process them or find a meat processor in your area people would buy them if they knew where to get them many people would like them but just the thought of killing them stops them craigslist isn't for everybody.

I use craigs list for my area under farm and garden its free and i always sell out chickens and turkeys

I have been selling poults for 7.00 each and sell out each week . I now have a waiting list . I have bourban reds. I think part of the problem is you are selling even higher than hatchery prices.

Put an ad on craigs list about supporting local producers , keeping money locl, no shipping or min orders , free ranged birds , pictures of adult birds , reasons why they are better than store bought . Sometimes people need to be educated on why the should buy from you and not walmart.

I too have a waiting list. I just happened to mention that we had turkeys coming in an ad for selling my Easter Egger chicks and I was inundated with requests for turkey babies. I could probably sell a couple hundred here if I had 'em.
