Hi, Im new to the forum and need some help. I have an Australorp hen who some weeks ago caught a cold. Gave her some anti biotics and all was well for a few days. In the last week or so ive noticed her acting like she has no energy and now she has lost alot of weight. Her feathers were unkept due to the other hens pulling her feathers out. Now her eye has some clear liquid comin out. Ive saw her eat and drink ok. Im worried she aint gonna make it. The other hens dont seem to be affected by anything. What do i need to do?

I am not sure, but maybe someone with more knowledge will chime in soon.. But

is it a cold or an infection? has she done anything unusaul that could have gotten her sick? mabye got a bad scratch that made her bleed, great tempurature change, for right now just keep her comfertable. mabye someone who no's more that i do will comment. good luck!!!

This mornin i went to feed and now it looks like another cold/infection. Same symtoms. Her comb is laying over to the side and is a light red color. Not the dark red like the other hens. What would explain the weight loss?

Mal-nutrition? Possiably?Have you tried seperating her from the others? Im not to sure on that but if you could possiably seperate her that will stop them from picking at her if they are....then you can focus on her and whatever is going on with her.... Ihope she gets better! Good Luck!

Has she ever been wormed? Have you looked for external parasites? After the antibiotics, did you give her time to regain her intestinal health, before you reintroduced her to the flock? I would suggest possibly a probiotic, some extra protein, ACV in her water and treat for parasites if found.

No parasites found at all. When i returned her to the flock she was doin well. I dont know if she has ever been wormed so im goin uptown to get some antibiotics and wormer and see how that goes. The rest of the flock is ok and shows no symptoms of anything. i take good care of all my birds. make sure coop and run are cleaned twice weekly and fresh water evrey two days as well as fresh bedding
