Separate hatcher?

Hey all! I have a 1500 Sportsman incubator that auto turns and has hatcher in the bottom. I'm one of "those" people who want to put each egg in the incubator daily so I can watch a chick hatch daily. It's like an obsession! I love it! However, I've been told this isn't good for the eggs in the incubator. Therefore, I should have a separate hatcher. So, with that said, if I really need one, do I need to purchase one or can I DIY one? Any and all suggestions and comments are welcome! New and reading a ton, want to just stick with what I have and make it work, but don't want to lose eggs in the process.

I've never done a separate hatcher, but I have a second (DIY) incubator that I let the chicks dry in since they seem to have trouble in my main one. As long as you can get temps and humidity to stay steady, you can try it. If it doesn't work, you can always buy one!

Thanks! I thought there were 2 different humidity levels though: one for incubating and one for hatching. Yet the more I hear, the more I see that while this is "said" to be the case, many do not do this. Thoughts on this?

Yes, this is how it's suppose to be. Humidity at hatching should be around 70%, and around 40% throughout incubation. A separate hatcher, or a second incubator with higher humidity, is helpful in a staggered hatch for this reason, or avoiding staggered hatches in general. I haven't been hatching for too long though, so try shooting AmyLynn2374 a PM and see what she thinks you should do. She's the "humidity queen" for a reason!
