Just set 6 Indian Runner/Blue Swedish eggs and two Araucana(sp?) eggs tonight.
My other chickens are due next week and the ducks the week after. I also have 60 quail eggs incubating and four Pilgrim goose eggs supposed to be on their way.
Life is good.

PS I would have put this in mine and Paganbirds hatching thread but I couldnt find it in search so just started another.

I really enjoy the whole process even if sometimes it is heartache.

I just set 6 blue swedish eggs last night, too! We can be hatching buddies!!

The only thing I am concerned about is that I put them into the same incubator as my chicks who are on day 7.

Hatching buddies sounds good to me!

UGAchick, there are people who have incubated ducks and chickens together but generally ducks need more humidity. If you have any way of getting an inexpensive incubator, I would at least put the chickens in that to hatch so it doesnt mess up any other eggs?
Of course I have seen a staggered hatch work too, though they seem to have a lower hatch rate.
Besides these Indian Runners/Blue Swedish, I have Ancona ducks incubating that should be hatching the week after next.

I would like to hatch some duck eggs, and maybe some turkey eggs, but I didn't know if you can put them in at the same time with chicken eggs? I know they take a week longer than chicks, and I heard that duck eggs need higher humidity, but can you hatch them together? I am putting some chicken eggs in tomorrow, so it won't be till next hatch, but would it work if I put the duck eggs in, and then a week later put the chicken eggs in, and they should hatch about the same time? or should I hatch them separately?

Thanks

I think it probably would work if you put the chicken eggs in a week after the duck eggs? I havent done that before though.
When I have hatched duck eggs I usually had the humidity at 60. I have heard all sorts of things with hatching chicken eggs, dry hatching, more humidity etc. etc. I think a lot of it is what area of the country you are in?
I have just got to the point where I incubate them separately though right now, until my other chicken eggs hatch, I DO have two Aracauna eggs in with the duck eggs but plan on putting them in the chicken incubator once its disinfected again. So they will have higher humidity for about a week.(I just put them in last night)
Going to be offline but will check back on this thread later today.

Can I be a hatching buddy too??

Yesterday was Day 1 for 9 ancona eggs, my first time hatching anything, in the incubator I built from directions here

So, we'll see. Air cells are rolling around loose in some of them, and one got dinged in transit and has a spiderweb-crack. Scotch tape to the rescue, hopefully. This morning I chocked a hunk of scrap wood under one end of the egg carton, and will swap it from one end of the other for turning. Hope that's enough - the weight of eggs makes the carton bend a bit in the middle!

hahahaha duh - edited to add, it's not bendy if I stack the almost-discarded carton lid under it

Cross your fingers for us

Anybody is welcome to be a hatching buddy.

The one that has a spiderweb crack, I have heard unscented candle wax can sometimes do the trick? Again, its only what I have heard, I havent experienced it for myself.

Fingers crossed for your hatch!
PS I just received notice that my Pilgrim goose eggs are on their way! So will be setting them when they get here, provided they get here intact.
