Setting Eggs 6-24, Anybody else?

Set 37 eggs this afternoon - the only ones we're positive are 3 Polish mixes, 3 White Silkie, and one Brahma...The rest are (donated) barnyard mixes that consist of red and black sexlinks.

I believe the only rooster in their pen is a Barred Rock. We're not concerned with the colors of the chicks, as long as they hatch. There are brown and green eggs in the bator, so at least a couple are EEs.

We'd really like to see the Polish mixes and the Silkies, and after an 81% survivability rate from the last hatch, (17/21), we are very excited to see if we can do it again.

One question - Will a Polish rooster over a non-Polish hen create chicks with the top knot? Until I can get at least one more Polish hen, this is the best we can do.

Anyone else setting eggs in the next few days?

FYI....our last chicks started hatching on day 18, and were all out by 20. Is that normal? Day 21 this time will be July 16, the 13th is lockdown.

I set some yesterday

12 chicken eggs from an egg swap and 15 quail eggs. Your chicks will hatch early if the temp is higher. I keep my temp at about 99.5 and also set my eggs in the evening and count the next day as day one.

Started hatching at 9 this morning. It will be somewhat of a staggered hatch, with a few pheasant eggs and a pidgeon egg (which already hatched and died - we won't be doing that again!)

At the moment, we have 8 in the brooder and a bunch more in various stages of hatching. Looks like this hatch is right on time.

Oh, and we had a few quitters - 3 guinea and 3 polish aren't going to hatch at all.

Guess we'll see what the final tally is tuesday or wednesday

Woke up to 5 more this morning, and our first silkie!
Current total is 21(?) with 2 just hatched and the 2nd silkie more than halfway zipped
Looks like 10 chicken eggs and 6 pheasant left

I'm really liking this homemade bator!!!
