setting up a coop/run, what should I plant?

Hi! I'm setting up a coop and run for chickens that I'll be getting when I'm done. I live in an urban area, so I don't have a lot of room. We plan to let them roam our backyard and then move them to our front yard in moveable pens, but is there anything I can plant in the back yard that will be hardy? I know they can destroy grass rather quickly. My husband was wondering about sorgum or oats that grow in the winter and then what to plant for the rest of the time. Thanks!

Unless they are moved regularly they will reduce any vegetation inside there pens to dirt.
