Thanks, I put an herb mixture in my birds feed. Oregano, basil, lavender, calendula, crushed red pepper, and garlic. I have also added some 21% protein layer pellets to boost protein for feather growth. I’m just worried about this one little hen for the next couple of nights at 37 degrees. Should I bring her in my garage those nights or leave her with every body else in the coop?Hi! I have a hen in a similar situation. I ended up putting a mating saddle on her just so she has an extra layer but that might be painful if the hen has pin feathers where as my hen does not have those yet. I'm sorry I can't be of more immediate help! I always like to boost me hens with a supplement in and after moulting though. I like to buy Rooster Booster and add some oregano and garlic powder to it along with some oats to promote feather growth. It seems to work well with my chickens! You could probably get it at your local feed store I just inserted a link to Chewy so you could see what it is
Oh nice! That's even better! I mean maybe so, you wouldn't want her to be cold. My only concern would be that she might get used to the warm garage so you might have to re introduce her slowly back into the outdoors. How warm is your garage? Maybe make it just a bit warmer than outside so she isn't too spoiled.
It’s not insulated or heated but it’s brick so it will be probably in the 50s in the garage. I guess I could just put a cat carrier in the chicken coop with some hay to give her a little extra insulation and that way she’d still be out there with them, but it might keep her a little bit warmer than sitting up on the roost in case there’s a breeze
That'd work too! In the end do whatever you feel is best for your animal. Those are two good options though
