Hi,
I'm not entirely sure if this is meant to be here. I hope it is.
Whenever I report something, I always select "trivial" or "mild", because I'm not really sure what to put there.
What are the different levels of severity for?
What do they mean?
Does it matter which severity one chooses?

It's simply your opinion or evaluation of the seriousness of the offense. For example, you might rank foul language higher than a duplicate post. You should put whatever you feel is appropriate. A staff member will review this, along with the rest of your report. We take this and a number of other factors into consideration when reviewing a report.

I use it like this.

Trivial -honest mistake or server glitch, (double post at the same minute- wrong forum by mistake)
Mild- mistake (Multi-posting minuets apart, repeated bumps minutes apart, items or animals for sale not in BAST (Buy Auction Sell Trade)
Major- 'Foul' language or minor spam (chicken related) or mild flaming disrespect of a type, unfair play
Critical- well never used this one but I'd use it for major flaming, major spam (not chicken related or asking for personal info), disrespecting cultures (religion, ethnicity, or orientation bashing), cheating somehow, trying to break the board.
