I can't seem to find documentation or even a thread on this topic. We (I) just had to get chicks NOW ( after stopping at 3 TSCs and RKs a week before everyone had pullets instead of straight run,), so we bought double just in case we ended up with half cockerels.

SO....here's the what I'm trying to find out. I read somewhere that cockerels/roosters don't tuck their heads under a wing when sleeping/roosting, but pullets/hens do. Anyone heard of this, is it true, and if so, how soon do they start exhibiting this behavior. Ours are 3 weeks old, and I have noticed that some roost with a wing tucked, and some don't. I think it's pretty safe to say we're at about 50/50 already if this "indicator" of sex is true.

Well, I'm not sure if that is entirely true. The males will try to be broad over the females and will tend to stand taller. If you have a laddered roost, they males will be higher than the hens as well.
