I know that a NEW HAMPSHIRE roo and a certain Hen produce Sex-Links:

I have a New Hampshire roo and several hens of different varieties and am wondering what I'll get??

This is what I know:

NHR roo and White Rock Hen = Golden Comet

NHR roo and Barred Rock Hen = Black Star (or sex-link)

NHR roo and Black Jersey Giant = WHAT???!!!

With the BJG hens and my NHR roo will the offspring be sex-link? Anyone KNOW!?

Also if any of these "sums" are incorrect please feel free to offer any advice.....

one more Question: What about NHR roo and a speckled Sussex hen????

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________1 Great Pyr, 1 pomapoo, 2 golden comets, 1 new hampshire red rooster, 3 black jersey giant , 1 barred rock , 1 white rock , 1 speckled sussex , 1 bantam mutt , and 1 MEAN RIR ......

Theres no quarantee that you will get sexlinks from the White Rock hens. I they are a recessive White breed and may not be masking a pattern that will produce sexlinks. You will just have to breed them and see what you get.

Yes a NH or any non barred/ non dominant White roo will make Black sexlinks when bred to barred hens

NH X BJG will not give sexlinks, you will get black birds with golden leakage, basically the same color that the black sexlink hens would be, but in both sexes.

NHR roo and Black Jersey Giant = All black, not sexlinks.

NHR roo and a Speckled Sussex Hen = All red, not sexlinks.

If you want to make sexlinks you'd be best to keep the NHR roo, White Rock Hen and Barred Rock Hen separate from the other hens as you don't want to mix up the eggs.

The White Rocks have to come from a line that is genetically silver. A better bet for getting red sexlinks are Delaware hens ... the whole breed was developed from silver sports and thus genetically silver.

Thank You all for the help!

I have decided that no matter what I get from the birds , the NH rooster weighs nearly twelve pounds (not exaggeration) and the hens weigh between 7 and 9 lbs , so the chickens I get will be dual purpose hens and cockerels to fry, I love the heavy breeds and am trying to find a cross that will give both a good laying hen (broody or not) and good fryers from the roosters. Again any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated, and the BJG are not Black giants, they are black australorp. After a little reading I found that the hens have yellow feet (bottoms) which differentiates the two breeds.......THANKS EVERYONE

Yep, even though they wont be sexlinks, they can still make good meat birds and the BA crossing would be the same as if she were a BJG either way.

And btw, did you get your signiture at the bottom figured out ? You dont have to copy and paste it every time, you go to Profile, then Personality, and write it as your signiture but I think you did that in the last post.
