So would be a little easier to tell after a couple weeks when feathers start to come through?

Definitely. Once the feathers start coming in it should be very obvious which chicks are gold/red (female) and which ones are silver (male). I haven't worked with the partridge pattern before, so it might be obvious as soon as they dry off after hatching.
