Im looking at getting some new chicks next spring and trying to figure some things out. I saw a picture on here and trying to figure out if its a red or brown star? I order from Ideal, since theyre really close, and all they have are what they call sex linked. Are these the same as the stars? Because they have brown and red sex linked chickens.

Heres the picture I saw:

Most commercial red sex linked birds are a cross between a male bird (production red, rhode island red) with a silver and dominant white female. You can cross a rhode island red with a silver factor white rock or a silver penciled wyandotte or a rhode island white or a delaware and get red sex linked chicks.

Golden comets, cinnamon queens, Isa brown, Babcock browns etc. they are all red sex links.

They are the Red Stars. I have the same chickens, but they are called Golden Comets. The Red Stars, Golden Comets, and Golden Reds are all the same chicken. It just depends on what the hatchery you are ordering from wants to call them. Heaven forbid that someone figures out that their chickens are the same as another hatcheries!

You will really like them. They are quiet, friendly chickens and supposed to be great egg layers. Mine still have a few more weeks before the point of lay, so I haven't figured that one out first hand yet.

Okay so what are the difference between the red and brown sex link? Does anyone have pictures of the two? Ive tried googling the two, but they seem to be the same..

I ask because Ideal sells brown, red, and golden sex links. But I cant seem to find pictures of the different ones.

I've just gone to Ideal's website and it is their Gold Sex-Link that you are after. Their Reds look more like the Production Red Sex-Link. The reason you can't find pictures of them by searching is because each hatchery seems to name their Sex-Links with their own names, but in the end they are the same chicken. Hope that helps!
