Sex links as a whole

we have 7 red stars and 4 black stars. they are all pretty friendly. (my others are barred rocks) i love the red stars the best. the are pretty calm. i have more trouble with the barred rocks trying to cause problems. then a black star will put them in there place by getting them back! i guess it depends on the pecking order in our particular case. our barred rocks and black stars are what we started with.

I have never had black sexlinks . We have several hundred red sexlinks. I hate them. They are extremly mean. They killed a couple of muscovy ducks for no reason. They run them off their nests. One time we had a sexlink that looked a little different, we moved her to a different pen and they killed her that night. The hens are usually nice to us, but the roosters are extremely mean to humans. We one time got a trio of full grown white rocks. The rooster was so nice. He protected his two hens. Then one night somthing killed him. Our hens killed the two white rock hens in a couple days. They are so mean. I am trying to switch to nice breeds like ameracaunas and sussex.

We have two black sexlinks: (1) 16 months old, very vocal, sweet, kinda bossy towards the other girls, but lays massive brown eggs. Wouldn't trade her for anything. The other one is 12 wks old. We got her at a week old. Very sweet, loves to sit in your lap and purr. She 's beautiful and not mean or bossy at all to the other girls. We also have 2 gold sexlinks 15 wks old. We got them at about 3 wks old, and they are a bit more timid. We handle all these birds multiple times a day, and with the exception of the goldies, they don't seem to mind at all.

I would highly recommend sexlinks. Just their eggs alone are impressive, and their coloring is really beautiful. I think that it really depends on the personality of the hens. Our 16 month old is our oldest girl, and the biggest, so she is in charge because of that. Otherwise, I don't know if she would be the BHOC (Big Hen on Campus) otherwise.

I have 10 hens. 3 BR, 3 BO and 4 Golden Comets. The comets are probably the most tame of the mix. They do peck at my feet and legs but it seems to be more of a "checking it out" thing as opposed to being mean.
The worst we ever seem to have between the "girls" a a breif 4 second disagreement that is over as soon as one of them spots food. lol
The comets were also the first to start laying.
I would definitley have them again.

I had my black sexlinks go after two of my puppies in the backyard yesterday.
The pups were sitting there together minding their own business when the gang of black sex links came running over pecking them for no reason.
At first the puppies were startled but didn't run and then hens kept it up until the pups ran away.

My four red stars are terrific, friendly, love to be handled, lay early often and big. You couldn't ask for a better chicken than the four I have. Keystonepaul
