How does one go about finding out the needed information on what purebred chickens are used to produce the different Sex-Links?

I have information on a handful of the basic ones, but I would love more indepht information. The UK hatcheries sure don't seem to like to share their information on the subject.

Personally, I find the subject to be most interesting. Anyway, if there is anyone out there that would like to share, I am all ears.

Thanks

PS, although I have been a member here for a while, I am still new as I haven't been hanging out here very much, ok, rarely would be more like it, but I am trying to change that.

You mention UK hatcheries but your profile says Oregon. I am confused, but that is normal and not important.

There are a lot of ways to make sex links, whether red or black. With certain mixes, you can even do feather sexing. There are certain standard conventions of what makes a Cinnamon Queen or a Golden Comet, but no standard convention on what makes a Star. There is also no law that states a hatchery has to follow a specific naming convention, so many create their own. No one is going around issuing fines or jail time if a hatchery labels their chickens different from the standard conventions. There are different mixes available in the UK than in the US also. Where we might use a Dalaware, for example, they might use a Light Sussex.

The only way I know to find out the parentage of a specific hatchery's sex links is to communicate with that specific hatchery. If they will not give out the information, I have no solution for you, other than to go to one that will.
