This is Snuggles, my Embden goose. He/ she(hope a gander) is 8 1/2 weeks old, and I want to know if he really is a he. I am not familiar with geese, he's my only, as I breed chickens. This is the photo I took of Snuggles today.

Without having him/her professionally "sexed" (which means having the animals genitals examined!) you really can't be sure.

However, there are a few hard and fast rules that have been around forever about telling the gender of a goose:

1. Larger geese are usually males, smaller females.
2. Males are usually more aggressive and protective than females
3. Females have a higher pitch to their honk.
4. (And this is my own one rule from observation) The females will be more curious, take chances in eating new foods and communicating with someone outside their species. Males will usually be cautious, standing at the back of the brood, keeping guard. I hope this helps.

No matter what Snuggles is, he/she is (an my goosely sense is telling me he's a HE) he is beautiful. Thanks for sharing the pictures especially the ones of him as a gosling.

Thanks so much. Will go into further investigation.
