I am a new chicken owner and am trying to sex my 3 month old Lavender Ameracuanas (3) and Silkies (2). Below are their photos and a brief description of relevant characteristics. Thanks in advance for any insights!

1) Dot: suspected roo based on red comb and spunky behaviors. The most likely to pick fights, especially with #2, and gives you that side eye a lot.

2) Pecker: started off thinking this one was for sure a roo, but now I’m unsure based on the light/small comb. Used to be the most dominant but now more calm.

3) Cloud: thinking this is a pullet, but the comb is now a little red. Started off the smallest but now the biggest. Always been very calm.

4) Nugget: very small but brave with a silly personality, so I’m thinking roo. Comb also appears larger than the other silkie.

5) Noodle: the most timid of the bunch. Flaps a lot when picked up but likes to sit in your lap. Very sweet and doesn’t pick fights. Thinking pullet most confidently of the group, but I am new to this and really don’t know!

Thanks for the help!

I think 2 is a pullet, 1 and 3 are cockerels. But it is a really close call. I am judging by comparison. In the next few weeks the males should become more obvious by the color and size of the combs.

I am not good at sexing Silkies. My guess is that the first is a boy, the second is a girl. But hopefully others with more experience with them will help.

Agreed!

I am not good at sexing Silkies so I can't help there.

I agree 1 and 3 are cockerels and I think 4 probably is too. 5 is a pullet :) I’m not great at silkies but working on it! @LadiesAndJane is really good with Silkie genders—thoughts??:)

Agreed on all fronts, (including the Silkies😉).
Nugget has streamers already fairly evident and stance and behavior sounds very consistent. Noodle pictured in photo 5 appears female. Behavior also seems consistent for a Silkie. There’s always a chance it could be a late blooming cockerel but doubtful at this point.😊

Yay I’m getting better! 😁😁
