Many people need help with this,so here is a lil help.

Drakes.
The most common way to tell a drake at a young age is,it's voice. It will become cracky/robot sorta voice.Once the drake meets full maturity,he will gave a different quack from the hens/female ducks.

Another way to tell is,like a rooster gets silkle feathers (Curling tail feathering),drakes have a small curl at the tail.Obviously, they also do not lay eggs.
All opposite with hens.
A hen will have small quackes or even stil her normal peep until maybe three months.Obviously, they lay eggs. And,none have curling.

Hope this helpful!

Drakes male ducks

Good to have a thread title that is clear about the topic. I would like to add that in our flock, we had some female Runners who gave their first little honk (it was not quite a quack) between 3 and 4 weeks old. That was the earliest.

And, yes, the drake feather shows up later so the voice is the first indication.

There is vent-sexing when they are first hatched but that can be dangerous for them if someone does not know what they are doing.

This has nothing to do with the thread......but since I don't know how to make a thread I was wondering what ducks make the best pets
