Hi,

I've don't personally have much experience with Americaunas. We have 13 chicks we incubated. They are either Purebred Americuana, Barred Rock Americauna or Cochin Frizzle Bantam Americauna mixes.. Any idea if you can sex the purebred Americaunas by the way they look? They are all between 2 & 3 days old.

Are they Ameraucanas or Easter Eggers?

Usually with Ameraucanas it is the comb that tells at first. It should get bigger and go a pink to red color by a couple weeks of age.

If they're Easter Eggers that may apply, but they also can be color-sexed as well. Often the pullets are a brown color with black pencilling on the neck or back, and the cockerels are a Black Breasted Red or a White with splashing of black and red at the wings and chest. When chicks, the roosters are much lighter than the pullets, and often a nearly white or yellow chipmunk color.

As for Easter Egger crosses beyond the hatchery/feedstore breedings, it is hard to say - I'd mainly just stick with the comb theories.
