Hi, my chicks are 4 weeks today! I started with 4 - day old chicks. From the start I had concerns that 2 may be roos (mostly by their size). One is a BO & the other is an EE. They were and still are substantially larger than my RIR & PBR. Sadly my PBR was killed by my Jack Russell Terrier. My problem is that if 2 are roos, I am unable to keep them in my city (a whole other problem) and that would leave my RIR alone. Should I add 1-2 more relatively or same age chicks to my small flock now just in case? I do have room for them so that will not be a problem. I am not replacing my poor little Shirley, I just don't want to leave 1 chick alone. Also, if anyone can tell by their comb size / color to determine sex that would be so helpful. All 3 have what seems to be size appropriate fleshy / yellowish combs (no pink or red @ 4 weeks). I will post pics soon. Thank you all!!

I would probably try it, with supervision, and let them do their thing as long as no blood is spilled. They will peck as their way of exploring, more than pecking order at this stage.

#1 is to show size difference between RIR and the larger EE & BO
#2&3 are of my EE - Laverne
#4 is my BO - Holly
#5,6&7 are my RIR - Pippi
They are all 4 weeks today, pics taken yesterday.
Any help sexing them appreciated!! Holly has very fluffy upside tail feathers. Pip has moderate out straight slightly down. Laverne has moderate straight out tail feathers.

I don't see anything screaming cockerel yet.....another week or so and the boys will be showing more red color in the comb and have reddish wattle growth too.

The RIR might have been a bit runtish or just from a smaller line.
