Sexing game on coturnix

Some of these are obvious to me, but some I'm not so sure about. It's been a few years since I've had to sex quail, especially juvies! Each pic is a different quail, one pic per quail, six quail total.

I am new to quail but have looked up different ways on sexing.


3 & 6 look like boys based on the brownish feathering on the chest. 4 is questionable as it does not have as a pronounced brown color on the chest feathers.
I'm not sure how early males will do this, I'm thinking @ at least 6wks of age - if you turn the quail upside down & pull it's tail feathers towards it's back -if it's a he - he will release a white foam.

One and four are the ones that I'm not sure about. :/ I might just have to give it another week or so before picking my group, lol.

1, 2 and 5 look like hens to me. 4 and 6 look like boys. 3 is questionable, can't tell how far up the breast the rust color goes.

Lol. Is that the one where you sit with them, drink a few beers and wait for them to crow? Lol. Gotta love Nikki. Wish she didn't disappear. She left here, then disappeared from facebook as well.

lol yes thats it. Like you said before, another few days and youll know for sure. #1 looks like a hen but you have some time to be sure before they get to fiesty.

Looks like three hens and three roos now. Not sure why I'm being so impatient, they're all going to be grown out to full size either way, lol.
