We have just got our first bunch of chicks..we decided to go for a mixed flock of all straight run. I'm hoping to get some help on sexing them. We have 2 partridge rock bantams, 1 buff Orpington, 2 speckled Sussex, 2 columbium rocks, 2 barred rocks and 3 silkies all range from 1-3ish weeks old. The first pic I beleave is one of the buff silkies then the white silkie then the two bantams the the two barred rocks then the Colombians then the sussexs and last but not least the Orpington, I'd appreciate ANY help thanks a Bunch!
Right , I had read a few things on different breeds that give you hints early like with the rocks having dots on their heads..I see now how on the other post only of the Orpington uploaded. Here's one of the bantam rocks.. You can see the Distinct dot on the head
the other bantam I the same but 'she's' a bit darker
silkies are notoriously difficult to sex before 4-6 mos. of age - when your other babies are somewhat older you can post photos on "What gender or breed is this?"
You should be able to tell the breeds of your chicks by the time they are 4-8 weeks old. Except the silkies. Silkies take much more time to sex. As drumstick diva suggested, you can always post picks in the "What breed or gender is this" thread when they are older and we will be able to help you determine their gender.
Have fun raising your new chickens! It's a very fun experience.
