Hi everyone.

I hatched 3 olive eggers on June. 19th. Making them almost 2 weeks.
The rooster was a black copper maran, however, the lady I got the eggs from is unsure about lineage.

Ive been doing research on sexing them, is it true that a white dot on the head indicates male?

There are 2 black chicks and 1 grey. When I compare the 2 black chicks, 1 has a dot and the other doesn’t. The one that doesn’t also has longer wing feathers and has tail feathers where as the one with the dot does not. Does this mean I have 1 girl and 1 boy?

The grey one seems to be at the same feathering stage as the one that I suspect is male. Also looks like a dot on head? Could this mean the grey one is also male?

Looking forward to any insight on this as I am really hoping for some green eggs!!!

Thanks

Yeah, if you're certain the black copper Marans was the father and purebred, then the mother would have to be barred. And you'd get sex links. Males with head spots and later on, barred feathers, and females with neither of those things.

Okay, very interesting! Great thanks! So do you think the little grey ones head is considered a head spot?

Yes, I think the gray one has a head spot, so is male. It should be blue with barring when it feathers out. The barring isn't always obvious on blue birds, though. Sometimes it only shows when they grow out male specific feathering at 13 weeks or so.
