I poked my head in the coop today and it seemed like all my Buff Orps-12 hens and a roo, were shaking their heads. They have been coop bound for a few days do to below zero temps. Is this just dust from being inside? Also, some of the combs are not looking good--chalky white. I'm worried. This is my first winter with the chickens.

Did you pick one up to see what the white was? Frost particles? Or is it inside the tissue? If it is it could be the beginning of frostbite. Get the vasoline and start giving comb massage, don't forget the wattles!

Check for mites.

This is sort of funny............some of my chickens used to shake their heads, and I realized it was the high voice I use to talk to them with!! It must be a frequency that makes their ear drums vibrate!!
