I'm always amazed at how much our rooster is involved with the well being of his girls.
I would love to hear some great rooster stories.
Today was something new from my rooster "Fowler" that amazed me. I've put all the birds except for the new mum and babies in a new pen. Well, they don't like changes from their routine and haven't layed in a few days. "Pearl" today was getting very ansty to lay and kept pacing the fence trying to get out to her old nesting boxes. Her level of distress was getting really high and so Fowler went into where the new nesting boxes were and called her over. She walked in one and turned around and went back out and started at the fence again. So he went to her and was 'talking' to her and brought her back to the nest boxes. He actually went inside one himself and sat down and continued to talk to her, she finally went in and settled but was still making distressing sounds and he just sat there and cooed in very soothing tones. He was actually lying in the nesting box beside her. I left after about 20 minutes as it can take a while but he was still right there in the nest box talking to her the entire time.
Fascinating really and sure enough when I returned there was an egg waiting for me.
I never knew the rooster would be there for emotional support!
