I love sharks on TV. But not when I'm in the water. We live on the SC coast and there have been 4(?) shark bites so far this summer. The pier fishers are catching a lot more small to medium ones this year. And Cape Cod has a bunch of Great Whites hanging around..... they closed 5 miles of beach. Shades of Jaws!
When I was in the military we did alot of snorkling and scuba diving in Hawaii, Microneasia, Philippnines and it was rare to not see some on a dive. Amazing fish.
When I was growing up, there were sharks that swam up the river. Bull sharks. In the late summer, the community put up nets, every year. A couple of times, during the new moon, we'd be coming back, at at night and hear huge things thrashing around, in the shallow water.
I still have nightmares, when I get stressed, about being attacked my sharks. My GF thinks it's funny but the dreams are terrible. I have swam in that water, at night, late summer, when the jellyfish were in. I never worried about the sharks!!! Now I feel lucky to be alive. The water was always so murky (brackish, dark brown water). All sharks will nibble on you, because they eat meat.
