Hello All!
This year is our first year with chickens. I spent 2 years researching and reading books before I even ordered them, and while everything in me says she is a girl. I just am not sure now that she is singing (didnāt sound like a cockadoodle doo) but definitely was a greeting to the sun.
My girls will be 17 weeks old tomorrow, 18 weeks on the 30th and no one has crowed yet. I bought a 4 blue/green layer pullet bundle, a Black Copper Maran and a Splash Maran (passed in transit) from MyPetChicken.com. We also purchased a Blue Cochin from Theisenās.
I am pretty sure the bird I heard this morning is their cuckoo bluebar and the last photo is the picture from their site.
When her comb and waddle came in I checked her saddle feathers and to me they look rounded which is what all the books say means sheās a girl. This morning she (I think it was her)
gave 3 trills to the sun that were louder and longer than normal but then she puffed her feathers and walked away.
All this to say I think she is a girl and I hope everyone agrees with me because we are not allowed Roosters. The reason I suspect her is because her comb and waddles came in much sooner than the other girls but they are also different Easter egger varieties. Other than that they are all similar in size, personality and tail feathers. None of them have the big rooster feathers or bold coloring. I included a group photo as well
